A Place to Pause
On-Site Installation
Kathy's work with flowers has been directly connected to the unprecedented losses our community and worldwide communities have suffered due to the Covid pandemic. The emotional toll continues to be enormous. Kathy decided to step beyond her usual studio work and create art that was relevant, engaging and experiential; something she could gift to her community. This upcoming piece will include many of the components from her previous sites; a journal to write in, a poem to read and take with you, and seating that allows all of us to take time to pause as we try and figure out what a new normal might be. If you haven't seen Kathy's previous floral installations around Olympia, come by the gallery and see how her work can help us transform grief through beauty and experience, together.
This is a call to my free spirit.
Transform me.
Transform me into a being
vulnerable enough to accept
the whispered comfort of the
dance of hanging flowers.
Let them lead me into a sway,
a gentle embrace.
Let them pull me into a curve
full of fragrance progressing in present time.
Let them catch my weary heart.
Oh, free spirit, guide me to listen to this vessel.
To make my run a walk,
to make my walk a pause.
Let me replenish my body with clear waters
reflecting the depths of colors in blended simplicity.
Let me honor the space between a breath,
accept the silence between thoughts
and bask in the radiance of grounded stillness.
Oh, free spirit, let me feel truly
free.
