Anne Petty
My work explores the psychological relationship between the individual and their natural environment. The figures I paint are primarily women, typically alone. Their isolation develops a loose narrative wherein their psychology is laid bare in these quiet moments alone.
The paintings reveal a particular cross-section of the figure's reality. But they are equally about what remains unseen, be it something just outside the frame or held within the figure's own thoughts. I strive to create anticipation and curiosity with my work, allowing room for interpretation while remaining firmly rooted in a particular moment.
