"My favorite paintings reflect the feeling of a snap-shot in time, a brief glimpse of something that I'd like to preserve and savor. Whether a plein air landscape or a studio painting of a favorite place, I want my art to not only offer a 'picture' of the moment but to also capture the feeling of the experience: the heat of the sun, the bustle of the street, a gust of breeze or a peaceful stillness. I appreciate the fact that life is constantly changing; I hope that I can preserve a few special moments with my art."
Deborah is a Signature Member of both the Pastel Society of the West Coast (2022) and the Northwest Pastel Society (2017) in addition to being a member of the Olympia Art League. In 2023 Deborah achieved the prestigious honor of Master Circle Status with the International Association of Pastel Societies. Deborah's work was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Pastel Journal's "Pastel 100", has been included in numerous shows across the US, and is held in private collections internationally.
Deborah's primary medium is soft pastel. The color range is vast and, contrary to the implication of the name, can be bold and vibrant. Given the directness of the medium (no brushes or thinners, no wait-time for drying) pastels are a perfect choice for both studio and plein air work.
