Fumiko Kimura
The use of sumi (ink) has a long history dating from the Yang Sha period (3000-2200 BC) in China when pottery was decorated with black ink.
I am an incurable explorer with the question in mind "what if I try this..." My inspiration for the paintings in this series comes from an emotional response to the environment around me: how living matters are in harmony with each other, or a surprise discovery of violets shooting from a cracked concrete sidewalk. Inspired from nature, my paintings took on a direction and spirit of their own and I responded accordingly.
